So, what exactly is Impact Studios?
Impact Studios is a rehearsal studio, based at Cemetery Junction in
Reading, Berkshire, containing 4 fully air-conditioned rehearsal rooms and
an on-site shop. More information on the studios can be found over on the
studios page.
I’m looking to record a CD, how much does it cost to record at
Impact?
Impact isn’t a recording studio, it’s purely rehearsals. We don’t have any
plans to branch out into the recording industry and we don’t have any
recording equipment, aside from a real-time CD recorder which will in the
future be available. We'll keep you posted.
How do I book?
The phone number for booking is 0118 9351479. We would normally only take
bookings by phone from Impact Members, but the membership system is
currently undergoing an overhaul, so just give us a ring. We don’t take
bookings by e-mail, sorry. We don't accept cancellations that way either,
since you asked.
What’s all this about Impact membership?
We run a membership system, by which people can effectively “join” Impact
Studios for free and get 10% off items over £5 in the shop. We're setting
up a members' online booking system, which will bypass the need for you to
ring us at all in the end, you can just log on and book yourself in! You
also get a lovely card with your name and picture on it.
Are there any restrictions on booking rooms?
Yes - we only take bookings on the hour (no half hours), and there is a
minimum booking time of two hours for bands (three pieces and upwards) and
an hour for singles/duos. Aside from that, we rarely book out 8pm – 10pm
slots in the evening unless we’ve got someone in until 8pm or someone
starting at 10pm.
Do I have to be a member to practice with you?
Nope, anyone can use us.
Sounds brilliant, how do I join?
We have forms at reception.
Can I pay by card?
I'm afraid not. We love cash though. We used to accept cards, until people
started trying to put £1 on them and we got mugged by the bank. Joy!
What if I need to cancel a room?
We ask for 72 hours notice on booking cancellations, or sessions may be
fully chargeable. If the booking you’re cancelling is part of a block
booking (ie. you’ve reserved the slot every week) then we need one week’s
notice. If you can’t give us this amount of notice and we can’t fill your
slot on your behalf, you will be required to pay for the room, but not the
extras (snare, cymbals, extra equipment etc).
I’m ill/my dog has died/my drummer’s stuck in traffic/my
guitarist has let me down/i’m supposed to be going to the football.. do I
still have to pay?
Yes, sorry. In general, we do charge for all cancellations unless the fault
is ours or the circumstances are extreme. It also helps if you're nice to
us.
OK I’ve booked a room and I’m definitely coming, how do I get to
you?
The internet is a marvellous thing, you can find driving directions to us
from anywhere else in the UK by visiting http://www.mapquest.co.uk and
clicking.. er.. ‘Driving Directions’. The address you will need is:
14 Wokingham Road, Reading, RG6 1JG
I know you’re not a recording studio, but I have a backing track
on CD - I just want to put some vocals on top, can’t you record that for
me?
No.
I’ve just finished my music technology course and would like to
get into the recording industry, can I have a job?
No. Honestly, we really are nothing to do with the recording
industry.
Oh ok, but do you do work experience placements?
I’m afraid not, generally all the stuff we do here involves making tea,
loading the dishwasher, picking cigarette butts up off the floor, watching
TV and cleaning the loo. If that’s your idea of fun, you’re welcome to come
round and clean my house for a week or so.. |
